Scenic Business: I love Colorado…and a new company?

Alright, so it’s been a bit since I’ve updated. It’s been extremely hectic the past few weeks… So for those taking note of the things I say NOT to do, do NOT go several weeks without updating your blog or any of your marketing efforts. Make some phone calls, play a few games of golf with a partner or client, just do something to keep your business fresh on people’s minds… I recently spent a week in Colorado, started another company out of the blue with a close colleague and friend and still managed to maintain my primary employment opportunities - all without ditching all of my friends (though they definitely have experienced less quality time with me recently, though some would say that’s possibly a good thing- haha!). To say it’s been a few hectic weeks would be an understatement.

Anyway, back to Colorado. For those who’ve never been, absolutely gorgeous. Central California was not impressive at all aesthetically unless you went to some specific areas, like Yosemite Park or Napa Valley, etc… There are some great views to be had but as a whole, the area isn’t exactly mind blowingly gorgeous. Colorado on the other hand was stunning. The mountain ranges surrounding you, one row without snow on the peaks, the other row behind it being completely covered in snow…the rolling hills and fields… It really is beautiful. To be specific, I was in Broomfield, CO. I know it can be substantially different based on where you go; Broomfield was definitely top notch. The retail districts were very clean and modern. The residential areas we went through all seemed very nice and appeared to be quite nice neighborhoods/communities. Business was definitely thriving out there. Overall, I still stand by my if I ever moved to anywhere in the United States other than Georgia, Colorado is still at the top of that list. Few places afford the opportunity to sit in a Caribou Coffee by a fireplace, drink a latte and look out the window over miles of open fields and mountains lining the horizon, peaks capped with snow without costing a struggling entrepreneur their life savings (what’s left, if any, after starting their own business).

So on to the business aspect eh? How about starting a new company? Is that a good start? Well, over the course of 2 weeks I’ve managed to co-found a company that so far is going very well. My business partner is a long-time professional colleague, friend and previous manager. Our skill sets compliment each other extremely well; he’s primarily engineering/hardware minded and I am primarily services/software minded. In addition to the aforementioned, our personalities work well together. We both have our own quirks; being overly meticulous or anal on occasion, understanding how to help each other open up to new ideas has made us tremendously successful. I’ve got a post in the works coming up in a few days about the process and tasks we’ve gone through…perhaps it will help some of you. Look for it later this week…
